Clearance

Clearance of a ship in a harbour. Preparations before arrival and servicing while the ship is berthed in the harbour. Comprises the following activities: - Determination of the berth and operational schedule - Instructing the various service firms - Handling formalities before authorities such as customs and harbour police - Compilation of the booking forecasts (partner/HL) - inspection of special cargo - Coordinating departure with the terminal - Ordering moorage services, towing services and pilots upon departure of the ship - Organising agents attending to the crew

Clearance Agent

Agent who is mainly entrusted with clearing ships on behalf of the shipowners. The clearing trade is pursued by chartering brokers and liners agents. Syn.: Chartering Broker
