BankingTransition period between low and high tide during which the water level does not change. Duration about 20 minutes |

Barge CarrierSpecial ship for the overseas transport of barges. The barge carrier takes barges aboard either by means of on-board cranes (LASH type) or by lowering the mother ship (dock ship principle) |
Barge CarriersShips designed to carry barges. Some are fitted to act as full container ships and can carry a varying number of barges and containers at the same time. At present, this class includes two types of vessels, LASH and Sea-Bee |

Base CharterCharter agreed upon for bulk transport. The volume to be transported is known, a ship must still be designated |
Base Port1. Central harbour of a trade or round the world service at which large ships call and where shipment is effected through feeder services to the ports of destination. 2. Term related to the rate policy of Conference shipping: The base port determined by a Conference must also be touched by shippers who must accept or deliver cargo even if they did not intend to touch that port. The additional costs for transport to/from the next base port are borne by the carrier |
